Hope for a New Year

Get ready to ring in the New Year!  It is almost upon us.  Will this new year be filled with hope or apprehension?

That question is not easily answered.  While economic recovery is making gains, 401Ks and bank accounts are rising, there is the debt crisis in America (nationally as well as personally for many).  While many are beginning to see increased incomes, there are also many facing a 2013 without a job.  Most of us feel secure and at peace in the United States, though we grieve from the violence of sinful men and women.

Will this year be filled with hope or apprehension?  It depends upon who you ask.

Peter, the apostle, wrote about hope.  “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Peter 1:3).”  There is a hope for those who believe in Jesus Christ, a hope that is alive and vibrant.  It is a hope that is not dependent upon circumstance.  It is a hope that is not a faint glimmer of possibility, but sure promise that will be accomplished.  It is a hope that we are generated into through the mercy of God the Father.

If you want your 2013 to be full of real hope, “believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.”
